*** IMELDA (Imelda Cota) *** January 17, 2007 at 9:35am Notas del viaje de randy Industrias MAN - Mexico City Manuel Segoviana Industrias MAN makes blenders and house fans for domestic use and export to Europe and the Middle East. It is a small privately owned company. This was a paid cal and training trip. They said the DOS AST/ESATS was working okay. They wanted the work done on a Saturday in order to minimize the effect on production. The unit is in pretty good shape for being seven years old. All of the people that understood the equipment have left MAN. They did not know how to program, cal or troubleshoot it. Initially they asked about a nonrepeatability in the DC hipot current above 900 VDC. So I knew there was a hardware problem. This unit does not have an AC Hipot. It failed the Self Test with high HVDC current. I disconnected the Test Bus wires coming out of the subrack from the test lead Relay Mux boards. The problem remained so I knew it was in the subrack. Through a process of elimination I determined that it was K3 on the ESATS Signal Mux board. Since the unit does not have an AC Hipot there are two unused K81 relays on the board. I substituted one of these and the problem was fixed. They had 5 guys watching the whole time so I had to explain every step so they could get an understanding of the architecture and troubleshooting approach. Next I showed them the relay self test feature and other simple ways to verify that the tester is working. This assured me that there are no other problems with the unit. We covered calibration. They want to calibrate it themselves periodically. They do not want to pay the Baker travel charge. They hadn't had it called for a few years. So I did a real cal, but, showed them how to adjust the Field Cal menu. None of the cal coefficients were adjusted more than 2 percent. They say they have resistance failures in the summer when in gets up to 35 C. We discussed how the ambient temperature compensation works and they will adjust the temperature cal if they have future problems. Next we covered programming. They do not add models often. There are only about 10 models programmed. But, a new model is just starting in production so we programmed it and learned the resistance and surge. I had forgotten the other useful resistance analysis methods we had in the DOS ESATS that are not in the Windows ESATS including "double flyer balance", "bar-to-bar difference" and the "weld resistance" test. There is definitely room for further improving the Windows armature test software. Also the ability to manually edit the resistance graph was very handy at MAN. We went over some Powerpoint presentations on testing theory which was helpful. The blade fixtures are holding up well. I did a little tweaking to get rid of an intermittent high resistance value on one fixture. They said they have been very pleased with the tester and Baker. They have plenty of unused test capacity so there is little probability of future sales here. They want a quote for some spare Computer Components and K81C relays.
