Comentario:	* IMELDA (Imelda Cota) * February 26, 2007 at 10:27am Emerson LeRoy-Somer - Reynosa Gerardo Zetina - Mfg Eng (responsible for all electrical tests on winding lines) Hector Garza - Mfg Eng (not very involved in electrical testing) Alberto Teran - Mfg Eng Mgr (was visiting Lexington plant this week) This is a new plant opened about 1 year ago. I found out about it when visiting LeRoy Somer in Lexington, TN last month. This plant makes medium size generators up to about 250 KW. Their main customer is Caterpillar. All products are three phase. The plant is very well organized and only about half filled at this point. More production is scheduled to move here from Lexington eventually. They are organized into 3 manufacturing cells: main stators, exciter stators and wound rotors. Each cell has an ST106 which was purchased in Lexington and shipped here within the last year. I answered a few questions about the use of the ST106s, but, Gerardo was pretty familiar with their use from 10 years working at Emerson Motores Hermeticos. In each cell they also have a Biddle resistance meter and Hipotronics hipot. In the Exciter stator cell they also have a DC power supply and a hall effect probe which they use to check the polarity of each coil since reversed coils do not show up in the surge test. We discussed alternatives to the ST106. Gerardo is very familiar with the AST8800 and wants them here. He says they relied on Lexington to set up this plant resulting in all the manual pieces of test equipment. But, they will be making the test equipment decisions from now on. We commiserated on the close mindedness of Robert Rodes at Lexington. Gerardo knows that they should automate the testing and collect test data. I mentioned the use of the AST by Kohler, Generac and Briggs. He is most interested in a D6R or an AST for use in the Exciter stator cell first. Send a quote for both. The AST would be 3 lead with Kelvin leads, but, no fixture. The SW6000 could be a good alternative for this line if it could store a few hundred Masters or if it had a Masterless mode. He wants more info about how the D6R collects and stores the test data to decide if it would work in a production environment. I told him I would get back to him on this. He wanted to know if we could come up with a way to incorporate the field polarity test into the AST. The difficulty is that there is a huge variety in the size and number of poles. I doubt it. The main stators have up to 24 leads. Yuck! After leaving this plant I drove through this new industrial park called the Reynosa Industrial Center. There is another large Emerson building at the far end (Lot 12) which is not in Baker's sphere of knowledge. El ingeniero Gerardo nos llevo a proceso a ver el producto que ellos están manufacturando que son Generadores, donde usan equipo de hipot, surge, milliohmetros, puentes LCR, entre otros, la compañía tiene pocas líneas todavía, están en crecimiento, nos comento el ingeniero que hace poco compraron 2 sistemas de Automation Technology donde aplican Hipot, surge y Resistencia. Nos dijo que por el momento tiene requerimiento de un equipo de hipot con una fuga de 30mA y uno de 100mA para unas nuevas áreas que van a poner, ya que tienen un hipotronic que usan a 3kVAC a 200mA, también tienen Slaghter, tegam y u n ST103A de Baker. Le presente información del guardian 1010 para la corriente de fuga de 30mA y el guardian 500VA para la corriente de 100mA, y le pidió que le enviara cotización de estos equipos para requerirlos.
